I know it's been about ten years since most hospitals in the U.S banned fake nails and I completely understand why. But why are some hospitals now banning gel nails.? I really don't see these nails as being any different than regular nails, except they do tend to last longer.
The longer someone wears fake nails, the more chance there is for bacteria to build up between the real nail and the fake nail. This is a recipe for disaster for nurses, who care for patients who are often immune suppressed. Fake nails were banned because of this reason.
But some hospitals are now banning gel nails and are forbidding nurses to wear anything on their nails. Why is this happening? Is this going too far?
What do you think about this? Do you think they should be banned? If so, why?
