Earlier today I received a notification from one of our community members regarding the accreditation for Education in nursing. Apparently all of the ADN programs and some BSN and MSN programs will be affected by this news.
As you may be aware, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the leading accrediting agency for all types of nursing education programs, has been in negotiations with the National League for Nursing (NLN) in an effort to achieve compliance with a long-standing federal regulation by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). Federal regulation states that as an accrediting agency, ACEN must be an independent entity and our current relationship with NLN is in violation. While NLN has publicly stated they would comply with the USDOE mandate, they have failed to fulfill this promise. As a result, the USDOE staff has recommended that our ability to accredit nursing programs and institutions be terminated."
