Nurses lead busy lives and it's difficult to keep your weight loss goals in check when you're forced to watch other nurses ordering pizza and other take-out foods during your shift. All too often we decide well, maybe I'll just have one piece of pizza or birthday cake and ice cream? It's hard not to feel deprived when you are hungry.
That's why it's important to have goals and keep yourself accountable. By rewarding yourself when you do well on your eating plan it motivates you to keep going. It's also important to tell others about your weight loss goals and even buddy up with a friend so you can keep each other accountable for staying on track.
Yet while eating healthier and slipping in exercise does take some work, it really doesn't have to require heroic effort. Making just a few simple lifestyle changes can pack a big weight loss punch over time.
Instead of thinking about foods you can't have think about all the wonderful foods you can. So many beautiful fruits and vegetables and lean meats and fish. Utilize your grill to cook wonderful fish and chicken dishes that are healthy without all the fat. When you stop thinking about all the foods you can's have and create wonderful dishes with foods you can, the possibilities are endless.
Stop Calling it "Working Out."
The very words working out can bring to mind images of people who are sweating and working. Neither of which sound very appealing. Instead think about how great your body will feel after a great day at the gym. All the awesome endorphins you'll have afterward and all the great compliments you'll receive on your new body. One of the greatest things about exercise is that it curbs hunger, which is always a great thing for anyone who is trying to stick with a healthy eating plan.
Always weigh yourself in the morning without clothes. This helps you stay consistent and goal oriented. If you slip up and cheat, don't beat yourself up. One of the biggest mistakes we can make it to throw in the towel when we slip up and eat something we know we shouldn't. Don't give up entirely just because you eat a piece of chocolate cake. Instead realize that people are human, re-establish your goals and continue.
