Sherry L. Barnett, 47, a nurse practitioner was sentenced to two years in federal prison for dispensing and distributing oxycodone without seeing or examining patients.
Ms. Barnett pleaded guilty in court to unlawful distribution of the strong painkiller Oxycodone. The patients she prescribed the medication to had no medical need for the drug. The sole intent was to distribute the drugs to addicts for money.
From 2011 till 2014 Barnett, owned and operated Resolutions HealthCare, PLLC in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was a licensed nurse practitioner.
According to the Prosecutor of the case, Barnett's partner in crime, Mr. Hendrix, who owns Rocky's Pizza solicited his employees, family, and friends to register as new patients of Ms. Barnett so they could all obtain illegal prescriptions from the nurse practitioner.
According to court documents, the conspiracy led to more than 60,000 pills being illegally prescribed and distributed.
A federal grand jury indicted Hendrix and Barnett on 10-counts of drug conspiracy. Both Hendrix and Barnett were sentenced to federal prison. Hendrix will serve 78 months and Barnett 24 months.
The Tennessee Board of Nursing put Barnett’s license on probation for at least five years. She is not permitted to work in a pain clinic or practice independently.
