Glendale, California- According to the Los Angeles Times, a nurse was terminated from Adventist Medical Center on Nov. 3 for unauthorized access of over 500 patient records.
Security at the facility were investigating the breach of their computer systems and expected to find a hack from an external source. Instead, they discovered it was one of their employees.
528 patient records were accessed by the nurse and the data that was breached included patient demographics, names, dates of birth, addresses, diagnoses and Social Security numbers.
All patients involved in the breach have been contacted and notified.
The hospital said, "We take this breach very seriously, and as a result we are taking additional steps to both ensure this event is resolved as well as ensuring these events don't happen in the future,"
