A woman in Canton Ohio has been charged and sentenced to three years for impersonating a nurse. She admitted in court that she did not have a nursing license, nor was she hired to work as a nurse.
31-year-old Kristin Sweet was sentenced by a judge in Stark County, Ohio. Sweet could be released in three months so she can be treated in a correctional center.
"I thought it was appropriate," said Hope Konovsky, an assistant Stark County prosecutor. "It is very serious what she did; on the other hand, she clearly has some mental health and (prescription) drug addiction issues. I hope this will be a wake-up call for her (because) she's never been to prison before."
Sweet pled guilty to charges of deception to obtain narcotics, fraud and practicing as a nurse without a license. She faces more charges in Crawford County, Ohio.
Sweet admitted to administering Tramadol to a patient in a Senior Living Facility.
She was a potential candidate for a position at the nursing home, had applied for employment at the facility and was on the hire list. The facility was waiting for the background check to be completed before actually hiring her.
Sweet also told the police that she is a nurse and gave them a different licensed practical nurse's certification number.
According to the prosecutor, Sweet did apologize at her plea and sentencing hearing.
