A male psychiatric nurse is under investigation for sexually attacking two of his patients on multiple occasions.
The nurse has been practicing for over ten years and is accused of sexually attacking one of the patients at Northpark Private Hospital in Melbourne, Austrailia for many years. The patient was being treated for a condition related to sexual abuse by a priest. The patient finally reported the nurse to administration at the facility.
The nurse is currently being investigated by the Victoria Police and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, following the suspension of his registered nurse licensure.
The victim is an inpatient who has resided, voluntarily at the hospital for 6 years receiving treatment for a dissociative disorder caused by previous sexual abuse at the hands of a preacher.
"Because of the disorder I don't exactly know when it started, but I know I've been there six years and that it's been happening a long time," she said. "I'm just so scared that he's worked with so many vulnerable people and that he could get reregistered to work at an old people's home or somewhere else where there's even more."
The patient, who's still an inpatient at the hospital continues to receive treatment but is completely devastated to have been abused at the very place she thought she could receive treatment and feel safe. Even after she complained to hospital administration she wasn't contacted to discuss the horrific crime.
The staff at the facility have informed the patient that they've discovered at least one more female patient that has also been abused at the hands of the nurse.
A spokeswoman for the hospital refused to comment on the investigation and why the administration had still not contacted the patient.
"East Ward is a 44-bed voluntary inpatient facility that focuses on achieving personally centered planning and are guided by our core values of promoting respect, service and advocacy for patients with a mental health illness.
"Our nursing staff provide a supportive atmosphere and environment with a structured life strategy designed to promote recovery."
According to a letter that was mailed to the patient, by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, it could take a year to complete the investigation, but they failed to add any additional details of the case.
Authorities are investigating the nurse "Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault at a medical facility in Bundoora in August 2015," according to a spokesperson for law enforcement.
"No one has been charged in relation to the matter at this time.
"As the investigation is ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment further."
