14-Year Old Girl Has Chosen to Die, But Not Before Making Her Last Wish Come True

14 year old has chosen to die but not before making her last wish come true

A 14-year-old girl from Wisconsin girl has chosen to die because she is in so much pain. Jerika Bolen was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy when she was an infant and has suffered horrible pain her whole life.

There is no cure for the disease that plagues her entire body. She can only move her hands, is in a wheelchair and uses a ventilator to breathe.

Jerika had surgery last year and that's when she decided she'd had enough.

She had one dream that she wanted to fulfill before she dies and that was to celebrate her prom. She chose a pretty green gown to wear for the occasion she called her "last dance." She was named prom queen during the event.

According to the Post-Crescent newspaper she told them  “There were a lot of tears, but then I realized I’m going to be in a better place, and I’m not going to be in this terrible pain. I’ve been working on it and thinking about it for way longer than anyone else has.”

Along with her mother she has made hospice arrangements an will end her life by not using a ventilator any longer. She hopes that it won't take long to pass away.

Her mother is a nurse and supports her daughter's decision. “People don’t realize what it takes to keep her alive. I know she’s only 14, but she’s old enough to decide. It’s her body and it’s her pain.”

“I try to be as happy as possible,” said Jerika. “I know I can’t always be happy every day. I still wonder why God picked me to have this disease and I know I can never know the reason. Maybe because I’m strong, I guess.”
