Nurses use a wide variety of slang terms, some without even realizing it. No, they're not always polite, but better than saying their true meanings out loud. Here are the most common ones we use:
Meaning: Broke all to Sh*t
usage: The woman was BATS When she slipped on ice.
Definition: A patient so high maintenance that they are rotated to a different nurse each day to prevent staff burnout.
Usage: She's a rotater, she won't leave the call button alone.
Meaning: A patient with so many medical conditions it's hard to keep up with all of them.
Usage: This patient has diabetes, COPD, recent ORIF, congestive heart failure and high blood pressure, he's a trainwreck.

Usage: The patient's mom is constantly complaining, she's a PITA
4. 3 H Enema
Definition: High, hot and a hell of a lot
Definition: “Fluff my pillow” syndrome. A high maintenance patient that really isn't that sick.
Usage: This patient has FMPS, you've been warned.
Definition: Crazy as hell.
Usage: The patient's husband is CAH
Meaning: Failure to fly. Used to describe various traumas where the ability to fly would have been a plus
Usage: She fell of a roof, she has FTF disorder
8. Jack in the Box
Definition: A patient who can’t stand or walk but keeps trying.
Meaning: Get out of my emergency room
Used when a patient isn't sick enough to be in the ER
10. Circling the drain
Meaning: A patient that is about to die
Usage: The patient probably won't make it through the night, he's circling the drain
Meaning: Dumb as a box of rocks
A person who is not very smart
Meaning: A person who wants more vicodin
Usually used to describe drug addicts
13. Status Adolescencus
Meaning: Teenage brats
Meaning: Assess stupidity level.
A person that's not too smart
Meaning: An obese person
Meaning: Shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.
Meaning: Unexplained beer injury
Usage: This patient was drunk and has a UBI
Meaning: Desperately seeking drugs
Meaning: Stupid new intern clueless.
Meaning: A patient who wants narcotics and no amount is enough
